HAKAIDERS

The band was formed in the summer of 1989, with Izumi Kato (drums) and H.K eichikei (bass & vocals) as the founding members. In the fall, Hara (guitar & vocals), who would later become the primary songwriter, joined the group. Atsuo (drums & vocals), deeply impacted by their live performance, soon followed, and the current lineup was established in 1991.

With a distinctive musical style that sounds like a collision between Venom and Pussy Galore, the band was highly active in the Tokyo live scene through the mid-1990s.

Today, Atsuo performs globally with his main band, Boris, widely recognized as a one-of-a-kind presence in the heavy music scene. Meanwhile, Izumi Kato has become an acclaimed visual artist known for creating mysterious and powerful life forms that evoke a sense of primitive art. He is currently represented by the French gallery PERROTIN, and his international achievements include an invitation to the Venice Biennale and becoming the first Japanese artist to hold a solo exhibition at the Red Brick Art Museum in Beijing in 2018.

The members reunited through a series of connections and released their original demo recordings on Potziland Records, organized by Izumi Kato. Alongside the release show, they finally completed a studio album—36 years in the making. The album was produced with the same uncompromising DIY spirit as in their early days, with Atsuo handling the recording and mixing, and Kato providing the artwork, blending sound and visual art into a unified expression.
