About the Sale Items
Lacquer Discs
A lacquer disc is the first cut for producing analog vinyl records. The master audio source is engraved onto a thin aluminum disc coated with a layer of lacquer paint on the surface, using a dedicated cutting machine. It is heavier compared to the commonly circulated vinyl records, and is used for pre-production checks as well as for creating the master during mass production. The lacquer disc being sold this time is a highly valuable item produced by Toyo Kasei, the sole pressing manufacturer in Japan.
A lacquer discs are less durable than mass production of commercially available discs due to their material.
Test Pressings
A test pressing is a record created before the mass production of commercially available discs. These discs have sound quality closer to the master than the distributed vinyl records. Test pressings are made to check whether the sound quality, groove finish, track order, and other aspects match the master, and to inspect for any noise or skipping issues. The process involves electroplating a lacquer disc and creating a stamper, from which the vinyl records are pressed in quantity. Generally, vinyl records pressed using the same stamper are considered to sound better in quality the closer they are to the initial pressings. Due to groove degradation during pressing, it is recommended to create a new stamper after approximately 1,000 pressings.
